Ushering

The United Methodist Ushering Committee serves as the “face” and “hosts” of the church, bridging practical hospitality with spiritual ministry. Their primary goal is to ensure a safe, welcoming, and reverent environment so the congregation can fully focus on worship.

Core functions include:

1. Hospitality and Welcoming

Greeting:

Serving as the first point of contact for members and visitors by offering warm smiles and handshakes.

Distributing Materials: Handing out bulletins, hymnals, and any necessary worship materials.

Seating:

Guiding attendees to their seats, accommodating special needs, and managing seating during crowded services

2. Assisting the Clergy

Collecting Offerings:

Systematically and reverently passing offering plates to collect tithes, and securing the funds after the service.

Communion Direction: Organizing and safely directing the flow of the congregation to the altar or communion rail

3. Service and Facility Management

Sanctuary Preparation:

Arriving early to ensure the sanctuary is clean, temperature-controlled, and supplied with offering envelopes and pens.

Minimizing Distractions:

Helping latecomers find seating quietly and preventing disruptive movement during sensitive moments of prayer or the sermon.

Post-Service Reset: Gathering trash, replacing hymnals in racks, and preparing the worship space for the next service

4. Safety and Emergencies

Monitoring & Security:

Surveying the congregation and managing hallways to ensure a safe, distraction-free environment.

Emergency Response:

Remaining calm in unexpected situations (like a medical emergency) and assisting with first-aid, evacuation, or summoning professional help
