Beautification

The United Methodist Church’s Beautification (or Altar/Decorating) Committee works to enhance and maintain the physical spaces where congregations worship and gather. While the official Book of Discipline generally tasks the Board of Trustees with structural maintenance, beautification teams focus primarily on the aesthetic and welcoming atmosphere of the church

Key functions of the committee include:

Sanctuary Decorating:

Changing seasonal banners, paraments, and floral arrangements in the sanctuary to reflect the liturgical calendar (e.g., Advent, Lent, and Easter).

Welcoming Environments:

Ensuring common areas, entryways, and foyers are clean, inviting, and hospitable to both regular members and first-time guests.

Special Event Preparation:

Organizing decorations for specific events like weddings, holiday services, funerals, and community receptions.

Liaison with Trustees:

Collaborating with the Board of Trustees to coordinate aesthetic upgrades, handle minor repairs, and organize seasonal clean-up days.

Floral Ministry:

Coordinating the donation and arrangement of flowers for Sunday services, and organizing teams to deliver them to shut-ins or hospital patients afterward.
