UMYF

The United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) is a structured organization for young people (typically ages 12 to 35) within the United Methodist Church. Its primary function is to empower youth to share the abundant life of Jesus Christ through spiritual growth, leadership development, community service, and global fellowship.

The functions of the UMYF generally fall into the following core areas:

1. Spiritual Growth and Evangelism

Worship and Devotion:

Organizing church services, revivals, hymn nights, and prayer retreats to nurture a strong, prayerful generation.

Discipleship:

Guiding youths to live clean, upright lives based on the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Christian Education: Providing Bible studies, religious activities, and leadership training programs (such as P.R.A.Y.) to deepen their faith.

2. Service and Community Outreach

Community Welfare:

Prioritizing the needs of the vulnerable, carrying out charitable works, and placing the welfare of others above their own.

Church Support:

Providing active support for church-wide ministries, conferences, and transitional leadership periods.

3. Fellowship and Recreation

Social Connection:

Organizing inter-circuit, district, and conference fellowships.

Youth Engagement:

Providing a safe, inclusive environment for young people to network, bond, and participate in sports galas, music festivals, and recreational activities

4. Leadership Development

Life Skills:

Grooming the next generation of church leaders by teaching administrative, protocol, and decision-making skills.

Representation:

Giving young people a voice in church governance and aligning youth vision with the broader goals of the Annual Conference

The UMYF is guided by the motto “Christ above all” (Zvese kunaKristu) and focuses heavily on total loyalty and service to Christ through unselfish community contributions
