Evangelism

The United Methodist Evangelism Committee leads the congregation in fulfilling the church’s mission to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world”. It works to bring the Gospel to the community, train members in faith-sharing, and assimilate new believers into the life of the church.

The functions of the Evangelism Committee typically include the following key areas:

1. Outreach and Invitation

Planning Community Events:

Organizing outreach projects, neighborhood block parties, and community gatherings to build relationships with unchurched individuals.

Advertising:

Coordinating publicity for church events through local media, social platforms, and community bulletin boards.

Welcoming: Assisting with hospitality and greeter programs to ensure visitors feel comfortable and valued upon arrival

2. Discipleship and Training

Faith-Sharing Training:

Helping church members develop the confidence and skills to share their personal faith stories and God’s love in everyday conversations

New Member Classes:

Collaborating with the pastor to organize and facilitate classes for individuals who are new to the Christian faith or transferring memberships.

3. Congregational Care and Follow-up

Visitor Follow-up:

Ensuring that first-time guests are contacted, thanked for their visit, and invited to return

Reaching the Inactive: Caring for current church members who may have become inactive, helping them reconnect with the church community

Devotional Resources:

Supplying the congregation with devotional materials (such as The Upper Room) to encourage daily spiritual growth

4. Goal Setting and Evaluation

Assessing Growth:

Monitoring attendance, membership trends, and how new people are received into the congregation.

Planning the Year:

Establishing annual goals for congregational growth, developing an evangelism budget, and evaluating what outreach programs are most effective
